Texas Mother Sentenced to 60 Years for Poisoning Daughter with Benadryl to Fake Seizure Disorder!

A Texas mother is facing the reality of spending the rest of her life in prison after being sentenced for poisoning her 4-year-old daughter with Benadryl and other drugs in a bid to fake a seizure disorder. Jesika Jones, a 32-year-old woman from Texas, was sentenced to 60 years in prison after admitting to her horrific actions.

Jones had initially been arrested in June 2022 after bringing her young daughter to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, claiming that the child had been suffering from seizures. This wasn’t the first time she had brought her daughter to the emergency room for the same alleged condition.

However, an investigation soon uncovered the shocking truth that Jones was deliberately making her daughter sick by administering dangerous doses of Benadryl. During her visits to the hospital, Jones would take her daughter to the restroom several times.

It was there that she gave her child excessive amounts of Benadryl, leading to the child’s severe symptoms. Doctors at the hospital observed that the child exhibited body tremors, dilated pupils, an elevated heart rate, and an inability to stand on her own—classic signs of Benadryl poisoning.

When questioned by Detective Michael Weber of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, Jones eventually broke down and confessed. She admitted to giving her daughter more Benadryl than was safe and even described herself as a “habitual liar.” In a moment of apparent self-reflection, she told the police:

“I think I’m a horrible person. I don’t love myself. I don’t like who I am. I’m tired of living life like this. I’m tired of hurting people. I don’t know. I really don’t.”

The investigation revealed the extent of Jones’s actions. During her stay at the hospital, she had given her daughter four to five adult Benadryl pills multiple times. Investigators found empty and partially used Benadryl packs in Jones’s purse, indicating that she had gone through 42 pills between June 19 and June 24, 2022.

The search of her purse also uncovered an empty bottle of the sedative Trazodone and a bottle of Hydroxyzine, an antihistamine, with 64 pills missing. The child later tested positive for these drugs, further confirming the severity of the poisoning.

Despite her initial arrest, Jones was released on bond. However, rather than stopping her harmful behavior, she continued to endanger children. In a particularly disturbing development, authorities discovered that Jones had been seeking out relationships with men to gain access to their children.

In one recent incident in July, Jones was caught giving medication to a 12-year-old girl who was not her own child. The girl later testified that Jones, claiming to be a nurse, had given her medication that made her feel dizzy.

Detective Weber explained to KTVT, “She was meeting men and basically becoming their girlfriend to get access to their children.”

Jones’s husband, Derek Jones, spoke out against his wife in court, testifying on behalf of their children. His words painted a heartbreaking picture of the impact that Jones’s actions had on their family. “What you did was not just an act of cruelty; it was a devastating assault on their innocence,” he said.

“I urge you to see beyond the surface and acknowledge the profound and lasting impact of your actions on innocent lives.”

He described how their children’s lives were turned upside down by their mother’s actions.

“Instead of exploring new places, making friends, and engaging in adventures, their lives were dominated by the restraints of fake sickness. Every playdate was replaced with a hospital visit. Every carefree moment is overshadowed by caution and fear.”

During the sentencing on Friday, District Court Judge Steve Jumes made it clear that he believed Jones’s pattern of behavior made her a danger to society. Judge Jumes said:

“Unfortunately, I believe you are a determined recidivist that as recently as a month ago was persisting in the behavior to which you pled guilty in January and are asking for mercy.

Because you are a determined recidivist and because I believe that you have a knack for finding situations where you can have access to children, I’m not confident giving you a prison sentence simply to [go] beyond a traditional dating range will protect the public. It is the court’s sentence that you will receive 60 years in prison.”

Jones’s case is a tragic reminder of the dangers of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental health disorder in which a caregiver makes up or causes an illness or injury in a person under their care, typically a child.

This shocking case of betrayal and manipulation will likely keep Jones behind bars for the rest of her life, protecting other children from her harmful actions.
