4 Ywar Old Iowa Boy Escapes Homemade Cage, Grandparents Arrested for Severe Child Neglect!`

A heartbreaking incident in Hamburg, Iowa, has led to the arrest of two grandparents, Elvin Leroy Culley, 78, and Martha Karen Perry-Culley, 61, on charges of child neglect and endangerment.

Their four-year-old grandson, who has developmental disabilities, managed to escape from a makeshift cage inside the couple’s home, covered in a disturbing mixture of human and animal feces.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the situation after the boy and another child were spotted outside the home in a concerning state. Upon investigation, officers discovered that the boy had been held inside a crude cage constructed from a portable crib, with a baby gate zip-tied over the top to confine him. Somehow, the child managed to free himself from this horrifying setup and leave the house without waking anyone up.

Inside the home, deputies found more evidence of severe neglect, including a second homemade cage in a walk-in closet. The situation was so dire that the authorities removed all the children from the house for their safety.

The boy’s parents, Dustin Perry and Lindsay Hamilton, both 26, were also arrested on charges of child neglect and endangerment. The Sheriff’s Office alleges that Perry and Hamilton had left their children in the care of the grandparents with specific instructions to keep their four-year-old son confined in the makeshift cage.

This tragic case highlights a severe failure to protect a vulnerable child, whose desperate escape brought to light the appalling conditions he had been living in.

In a separate but equally tragic case, an Indiana couple is facing charges in the death of their 12-year-old daughter, Alice Ruby Bredhold. Alice, who had diabetes, died on July 4 after being found unresponsive on the floor of her bedroom at the family’s home in Evansville.

According to an affidavit obtained by NBC affiliate WFIE, investigators discovered that Alice had been struggling with her diabetes for some time, and her parents allegedly neglected to manage her condition.

The state’s Department of Child Services had previously contacted the family after school officials reported that Alice’s blood sugar levels were dangerously high. Investigators revealed that since January, Alice had arrived at school with critically high blood-sugar levels on 34 separate occasions, including one instance where a nurse reported her condition as “life-threatening.”

Both of these tragic cases underscore the devastating impact of neglect and the urgent need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable children. The consequences of such neglect are profound, with innocent lives forever altered or, in Alice’s case, tragically lost.
